:: The Great American Complain Off!

The opposite of complaining is gratitude.  In the United States, we celebrate our collective gratitude once a year on Thanksgiving.

In preparation for this day of thanks, we are proposing that the day before Thanksgiving be officially declared "Complaint Free Wednesday!"

What better way to help us prepare for a day of gratitude than a day free from talking about the "bad" things around us.

If you live in the U.S., email your Congressional and Senate Representatives today.  Ask them to introduce a bill and support the bill's passing officially declaring the day before Thanksgiving "Complaint Free Wednesday!"

  • Click HERE to contact your representative in the House

  • Click HERE to contact your Senator.

:: FAQ: "What if I get poor service, should I not complain?"

The answer to this question is best summed up by Eckhart Tolle in his book, "A New Earth:"

"Complaining is not to be confused with informing someone of a mistake or deficiency so that it can be put right. And to refrain from complaining doesn’t necessarily mean putting up with bad quality or behavior. There is no ego in telling the waiter your soup is cold and needs to be heated up—if you stick to the facts, which are always neutral. ‘How dare you serve me cold soup…?’ That’s complaining.”

If you can express what you want and state only the facts, you will never complain.  When you are speaking to someone, always avoid any energy of "How dare you do this to me?"  When you make it personal, you complain and draw that negative energy right back to you.

FYI: I have a book coming out in October of 2007 published by Doubleday in the United States as well as Random House audio and other publishers in other countries which answer the many questions we are frequently asked about how complaining affects our lives and how to become a complaint free person.  Look for the book in mid to late October.

Blessings,
